EDGE – MAROON DOWNS SISEC TO GRAB FIRST WIN AT THE WSSC

CALGARY, Alta. – Cole McKeckney scored two goals, including the game-winner, and grabbed one assist, while Kyle Magus tallied one goal and two assists as Edge School – Maroon picked up their first win at the 2013 World Sport School Challenge with 5-1 victory over the Swiss International Sports & Education Center in the Varsity Division fifth-place game on Tuesday.

McKeckney opened the scoring for Edge – Maroon with 5:07 left in the first period. Just over one minute later SISEC responded as Arrigo Burgener evened the score, however, McKeckney netted his second goal of the period shortly after, sending Edge – Maroon to the dressing room with a 2-1 lead after one period.

Edge – Maroon’s offense exploded in the second period, outshooting SISEC 14-7 in the frame, while tacking on three goals to their lead. Magus, Callum Owens and Tom Lee all tallied singles for Edge – Maroon in the period, giving them a 5-1 lead after 40 minutes.

SISEC goaltender, Michael Gerber was sensational in the third period, stopping all 16 shots he faced, giving him 24 saves on the night, while Edge – School Maroon goaltender, Matthew McDonald made 28 saves in the game, including eight in the scoreless third period, preserving the 5-1 win.

Edge – Maroon and SISEC both finish the 2013 World Sport School Challenge with identical 1-4 records, with Edge – Maroon finishing in fifth spot, while SISEC will finish sixth.
