ROYAL BANK CUP UPDATE January 15, 2001

The Royal Bank Cup Committee has been holding regular meetings and plans are progressing to host the Canadian Junior "A" Championship, or Royal Bank Cup, in Flin Flon from May 05 to May 13 inclusive.

TICKET SALES
Season ticket and voucher holders were given first chance to purchase packages to the 10 round robin and 3 playoff games. To date, over 840 fans have availed themselves of this opportunity. When ticket requirements for visiting teams, the Canadian Hockey Association and sponsorship packages are factored in, there are currently commitments in place for in excess of 1350 packages. The remaining 650 ticket packages are now available on a "first come “ first served" basis. The complete game package, which costs $160 (including GST), is available at the Flin Flon Bomber office or by phoning (204) 687-4404 or faxing (204) 687-4704. There is still a good seat selection available, so donÕt be disappointed “ purchase your package soon. Single game tickets (if there are any available) will not go on sale until April 23, 2001.

WEB SITE
The official web site for the Royal Bank Cup is now up and running and can be found at www.royalbankcup.com or at the Canadian Hockey Association web site at www.canadianhockey.ca. The site has information on the game schedule, ticket information and general information on accommodations. There is also some background information on the Flin Flon Bombers and our community in general. In addition to the usual media outlets, the committee hopes to keep the public up to date by posting any press releases to this site. Another good source of information for those of you interested in following the teams who are eligible to participate in the Royal Bank Cup is the Canadian Junior "A" Hockey League site at www.cjahl.com.

VOLUNTEERS
The committee is working hard on finalizing their list of volunteer requirements. The committee wishes to reassure those who have already volunteered to participate during the week of the tournament, that they have not lost the list and you will be contacted as we get closer to the actual time. At this time, the biggest need appears to be for bartenders at the entertainment centre which is planned for the curling area of the Uptown Curling Club. If you (or your organization) can be of some help, please contact Rod Leydon, who is the volunteer chairman, at 687-3355.

ENTERTAINMENT CENTRE
Plans are progressing to turn the curling club into an entertainment centre to be known as the "Home Hardware Gardens". The plans include constructing a sub floor in the curling club along with a stage, bar and a food court. Brent Lethbridge is in charge of the entertainment, which will be ongoing throughout the nine days of the tournament. Brent is confident the entertainers, which will have a decidedly local flavour, will be first class. The committee is inviting interested parties (commercial or private) to submit a proposal to provide food concessions (on a profit-sharing basis) in the entertainment centre. Further information may be obtained by calling Duke Rodnisky at 687-4133.

ACCOMMODATIONS
Accommodations for the tournament are expected to be at a premium. Many of the hotel rooms in the community and surrounding area have already been booked. If you are interested in participating in a bed and breakfast program, please give Rod Gourlay a call at 688-2957 or Dave Knutson at 688-2009.

SPONSORSHIPS
A tournament of this magnitude would not be possible without the support of the Flin Flon and area business establishments. To date the committee is pleased to report that 71 businesses and individuals have pledged support in cash and in kind for services in excess of $125,000. In the near future, appropriate signage will begin to appear in those places that have made it possible to host this prestigious event. The general public is encouraged to show their appreciation by supporting these community supporters. If you or your business or service club has not been contacted by a representative of the committee please give Dan Reagan a call at 681-3418 or Heavy Evanson at 687-4404 and they would be pleased to outline the opportunities available to you.

SOUVENIRS
Johnny's Confectionery and Sporting Centre has been selected as the official provider of souvenirs to the Royal Bank Cup. Souvenirs will shortly be available at JohnnyÕs and also at the Forum during the tournament.
