CANADA’S NATIONAL WOMEN’S UNDER-22/DEVELOPMENT TEAM DUMPS GERMANY 8-1 IN EXHIBITION GAME AHEAD OF 2013 MECO CUP

MEMMINGEN, Germany – Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team defeated Germany 8-1 on Wednesday in an exhibition game ahead of the 2013 Meco Cup, taking place Jan. 3-6 in Memmingen and Füssen, Germany.

Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville, Que./Boston University, Hockey East) had a hat trick, Brianne Jenner (Oakville, Ont./Cornell University, ECAC) added two markers and Carolyne Prevost (Sarnia, Ont./Montreal, CWHL) scored on a penalty shot, while both Jessica Campbell (Melville, Sask./Cornell University, ECAC) and Sarah Davis (Paradise, N.L./University of Minnesota, WCHA) scored one goal apiece.

Head coach Pierre Alain was impressed with his team's performance. 

“Energy-wise, it was very good,'' Alain said. “It was our first game together and communication and cohesion was pretty good.”

Julia Zorn had the lone goal for Germany. 

Canada opens preliminary play Thursday against Switzerland. The playoff games are set for Sunday. 

Sweden won the Meco Cup last year, while Canada settled for a third-place finish. Canada is an eight-time gold medallist at the Meco Cup, formerly the MLP Cup and Air Canada Cup.
