THEODORE SCORES AGAIN TO LEAD RED TO INTRASQUAD SWEEP AT U18 CAMP

ETOBICOKE, Ont. – Shea Theodore (Aldergrove, B.C./Seattle, WHL) scored the game-winner with 10 seconds to go in the second period, his third goal in as many games, as Red completed an intrasquad sweep of White at Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp with a 4-2 win on Monday morning.

Red never trailed in the three games, blanking White 3-0 in the camp opener on Saturday night before scoring a 5-1 victory on Sunday.

Jonathan Drouin (Ste-Agathe, Que./Halifax, QMJHL), Morgan Klimchuk (Calgary, Alta./Regina, WHL) and Matthew Needham (Penticton, B.C./Kamloops, WHL) also scored for Red, which won despite being outshot for the first time in three games, 30-27.

Drouin finished with a goal and an assist, while Nathan MacKinnon (Cole Harbour, N.S./Halifax, QMJHL) and Madison Bowey (Winnipeg, Man./Kelowna, WHL) chipped in with two helpers apiece.

Jérémy Grégoire (Sherbrooke, Que./Chicoutimi, QMJHL) and Nic Petan (Delta, B.C./Portland, WHL) scored the goals for White, which twice fought back from one-goal deficits to tie the game in the second period before Theodore’s winner.

The teams switched goaltenders from the first two games, with Tristan Jarry (Delta, B.C./Edmonton, WHL) and Zachary Fucale (Rosemère, Que./Halifax, QMJHL) sharing netminding duties for White, while Eric Comrie (Edmonton, Alta./Tri-City, WHL) and Spencer Martin (Oakville, Ont./Mississauga, OHL) were between the pipes for Red.

Following the game, 22 players will be selected for Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team, which will attempt to win a fifth consecutive gold medal at the Memorial of Ivan Hlinka tournament, Aug. 13-18 in Piestany, Slovakia and Breclav, Czech Republic.
