2011-12 National Men's Under-18 Team

Red 4 - White 8

HUDON’S THREE POINTS LEAD WHITE TO FIRST INTERSQUAD WIN

CALGARY, Alta. – Charles Hudon (Boisbriand, Que./Chicoutimi, QMJHL) scored twice and added an assist to lead the offence as White avoided an intersquad sweep at the National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team selection camp with an 8-4 win over Red on Tuesday.

The game was the final opportunity for players to impress the Team Canada staff before the final roster is named Tuesday afternoon.

Coming off a one-sided 8-2 loss that ended just 14 hours before Tuesday’s puck drop, White jumped out to a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes thanks to goals from Jesse Graham (Toronto, Ont./Niagara, OHL) and Brendan Gaunce (Markham, Ont./Belleville, OHL).

The teams traded a pair of goals each in the first 13 minutes of the second period – Chandler Stephenson (Saskatoon, Sask./Regina, WHL) and Troy Bourke (Onoway, Alta./Prince George, WHL) for Red, Hudon and Jarrod Maidens (Niagara Falls, Ont./Owen Sound, OHL) for White – but Chris Marchese (Woodbridge, Ont./Erie, OHL) and Connor Rankin (North Vancouver, B.C./Tri-City, WHL) scored in the dying minutes of the middle frame to make it a four-goal advantage for White.

Red would make it interesting in the third period as Stephenson and Félix Girard (Levis, Que./Baie-Comeau, QMJHL) cut White’s lead to 6-4, but Hudon and Mathew Campagna (Mississauga, Ont./Sudbury, OHL) scored to provide the final margin of victory.

Domenic Graham (Gatineau, Que./Drummondville, QMJHL) picked up the win in goal for White, while François Tremblay (Baie-Comeau, Que./Val’d’Or, QMJHL) suffered the loss for Red.

The Red-White rosters were changed prior to the game with a handful of players on each team switching sides for the intersquad finale.
