Canada 6 - United States 4

HALL'S HAT TRICK LEADS CANADA TO PRE-TOURNAMENT WIN

TRNAVA, Slovakia – Taylor Hall (Kingston, ON/Windsor, OHL) scored a hat trick and added an assist in leading Canada’s National Men’s Summer Under-18 Team to a 6-4 exhibition win against the United States on Saturday.

Hall scored a goal in the second period, and netted two in the third, including the game-winner at 18:51. He finished a great play started by linemate Matthew Duchene (Haliburton, ON/Brampton, OHL), who forced a turnover in the offensive zone, made a quick move and then fed the puck to an open Hall, who fired it past USA goaltender John Cullen.

Hall later added an empty-netter to ice the victory.

Scott Glennie (Winnipeg, MB/Brandon, WHL) opened the scoring at the 15-minute mark of the first period when he one-timed a pass from Brayden Schenn (Saskatoon, SK/Brandon, WHL). The United States scored their first goal at 16:47 and sent the game to the first intermission tied 1-1.

Two goals in less than two minutes gave Canada a 3-1 lead early in the second period. Garrett Mitchell (Regina, SK/Regina, WHL) scored at 2:56 from Casey Cizikas (Mississauga, ON/Mississauga, OHL) and Ryan O’Reilly (Seaforth, ON/Erie, OHL), and Hall scored his first of the game from Ryan Ellis (Hamilton, ON/Windsor, OHL) and Glennie just 1:25 later.

The USA scored later in the second and tied it up early in the third before Canada regained a one-goal lead during a 5-on-3 power play at 8:33 of the third, on a pretty tic-tac-toe play finished by Louis Leblanc (Kirkland, QC/Lac St-Louis, LHMAAAQ). Hall and Ellis got the assists.

After the United States again tied the game, Hall scored the game-winner.

Bryce O’Hagan (Burlington, ON/Sault Ste. Marie, OHL) got the win for Canada in net.

Team Canada will travel to Breclav to face the host Czech Republic on Sunday, Canada’s final exhibition game in preparation for the 2008 Memorial of Ivan Hlinka touranament, which begins on Tuesday, August 12 with Canada taking on Switzerland.
