2013-14 National Sledge Team

Norway 1 - Canada 5

LAROCQUE SCORES TWICE, CANADA STAYS UNBEATEN AT FOUR NATIONS

SOCHI, Russia – Dominic Larocque (Quebec City, Que.) had a pair of goals to help Canada’s National Sledge Team to its second win in as many days at the Four Nations Tournament, 5-1 over Norway on Wednesday.

Marc Dorion (Bourget, Ont.) added a goal and two assists for Canada, which has outscored its opposition 8-2 in its first two games, and won its 11th consecutive game against Norway, dating back to March 2011.

Despite outshooting Norway 9-2 in the first period, Canada found itself down 1-0 13 minutes in when Audun Bakke beat netminder Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) on the power play.

But the Norwegian lead didn’t last long – Larocque’s first of the game tied it just 49 seconds later, and goals from Dorion, Larocque and Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.) in a span 2:49 in the second period but the Canadians well in control.

Derek Whitson (Chatham, Ont.) rounded out the scoring for Canada in the third period.

Watson needed to make just four saves for the victory between the pipes.

For the second game in a row, the Canadians had as many goals as their opponents had shots. Through two games, Canada has outshot the Czech Republic and Norway by a combined 54-8.

Canada will look to wrap up a perfect preliminary round when it meets the host Russians on Thursday (9 a.m. ET/6 a.m. PT). The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, with the gold and bronze medal games set for Sunday.
