JIM MCLEOD

Following a courageous battle with cancer, Jim McLeod, equipment manager for Canada’s National Sledge Hockey Team, passed away at home in Elmira, ON on March 27 at the age of 58.

Involved with the National Sledge Hockey Team since 2003, Jim was a big part of Canada’s gold medal victory at the 2006 Paralympic Winter Games in Turin, Italy. He built lasting relationships with a number of the players, and was very proud of his involvement with the team. The kind and strong words of encouragement over the last nine months meant the world to Jim as he fought the battle of his life.

The long-time equipment manager for the Elmira (Junior B) Sugar Kings and tireless volunteer for events such as the Canadian Diabetes Flame of Hope Trail Ride and Dan Snyder Memorial Golf Tournament, Jim is survived by his wife Helen, son Chad, daughter Kristi, son-in-law Rob, daughter-in-law Shawna and granddaughter Ava.

The players, along with the coaching and support staff, would like to extend their condolences to Jim’s family. He will be missed.

PEDERSON RUNNING AWAY WITH SCORING RACE AT WSHC

Norwegian captain Rolf Einar Pederson is known through sledge as one of the best players the world has to offer. At the 2007 World Sledge Hockey Challenge, he is showing why.

Through two games, Norway (1-0-0-1) has scored seven goals. Pederson has scored all of them.

His closest competitors in the tournament scoring race are Canadian sniper Greg Westlake, who has scored three times.
