Team Canada fell to Team Sweden in their third game of the Junior Grand Prix. Sweden controlled the hockey game, defeating Canada by a score of 7-2. Wade Finegan, a forward with the Georgetown Raiders, and Chris Auger, a forward with the Wellington Dukes of the OPJHL, scored Canada’s two goals. Team Canada lost in their second game of the Junior Grand Prix. Team Belarus out-shot Canada by a total of 57 - 32. Belarus is comprised of several strong players who will play with their World Junior club next winter. Matthew Hamilton, a forward with the Thunder Bay Bull Dogs of the SIJHL, scored Canada’s lone goal in the first period of the contest. CANADA SENDS JUNIOR A SELECT TEAM TO RUSSIA FOR 2006 GRAND PRIX TOURNAMENT

A selection of top Junior A hockey players will be representing Canada at the 2006 Grand Prix Tournament in St. Petersburg, Russia from April 4-9.

The roster was chosen by a committee put together by the Ontario Hockey Association, in conjunction with the CJAHL. All teams in the CJAHL were contacted across the country and names were brought forward to this committee who ultimately selected the team.

CALGARY, AB – Hockey Canada announced on Friday that the Thunder Bay Bombers are set to represent Canada at the 2006 Hungarian (Pannon PSM) Cup that will be held February 10-12th, 2006 in Budapest, Hungary and will feature four National Teams: Canada, Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia. Thunder Bay earned the right to represent Canada by capturing the 2005 Allan Cup, Canada’s Senior Men’ Hockey Championship in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan in April, 2005. » more

1939 AND 1961 TRAIL SMOKE EATERS HONOURED IN TRAIL, BC

During the past couple of years, Hockey Canada has taken on an initiative to recognize each of Canada’s past World Championship Teams. On Saturday, March 4, 2006, Hockey Canada will be honouring the 1939 and 1961 Trail Smoke Eaters World Championship Hockey Teams.  The ceremony will take place at the Trail Memorial Centre – Cominco Arena in Trail, BC at 7:30 pm (PT).  The team will be honoured with a banner raising ceremony, taking place during the second intermission, celebrating their 1939 and 1961 gold medal winning Men’s World Championship Teams

CANADA OPENS LOTO CUP WITH LOSS TO SWITZERLAND

Canada opened the Loto Cup on Thursday, losing 4-2 to Switzerland’s National Men’s Team. Switzerland iced a near Olympic calibur team for the game, as only three players from their Men’s Olympic Team are presently in the NHL. Canada’s goals were scored by Yves Sarault and Jason York. Canada’s next game at the Loto Cup is on Friday afternoon against Latvia. WINS DEUTSCHLAND CUP

HANNOVER, GERMANY – Canada’s National Men’s Team won the Deutschland Cup on Sunday, finishing on top of the round robin event with eight points, after a 4-1 win over Germany. 

Canada needed help from Team USA in the final game of the event, to secure its first Deutschland Cup since 2002. USA defeated Slovakia 3-2, and that result left Canada in first place with eight points, followed by Switzerland (7), USA (6), Slovakia (6) and Germany (3). » more | summary
