Canada Beats Germany 4-1, and Plays Slovakia Tomorrow For the Hungarian Cup Championship

BUDAPEST, HUNGARY – Team Canada defeated Germany 4-1, and improve their record at the Hungarian Cup to a perfect 2-0.

Canadian forward Chris Herperger opened the scoring in the first giving the red and white a 1-0 first period lead. After a scoreless second period, it took Canada another 30 minutes of hockey before they were able to score their second goal of the game as red-hot Canadian Mike Green buried his third of the tournament.

Canada’s Eric Schneider scored an unassisted goal to give them a comfortable 3-0 lead, but the Germans would not go down without a fight as they ruined Canadian goalie Steve Passmore’s shut-out bid with just over seven minutes remaining in the game. Canada’s Glen Metropolit added a late goal to seal the victory for Canada with a 4-1 win.

Goalie Steve Passmore earned his first win with 19 saves in his Team Canada debut.

Team Canada will now face Slovakia on Sunday, with the winner of the game determining the tournament winner.
