Stockholm, Sweden - Team Canada lost 4-3 to Team Finland in what was Canada?s final game of the 2001 Sweden Games Tournament. Team Canada spotted their opponents a two goal lead for the fourth consecutive game of the tournament and battled back to go ahead after two periods before giving way to 2 Finland goals in the third period.

Finland started quickly taking advantage of Team Canada that had played and evening game last night and was back at the rink this morning for a 12:00 noon start against a Finnish Team that had the day off yesterday. The Finns scored two goals on Canadian netminder, Jamie Ram in the opening twenty minutes and went to the dressing room for the first period down two goals.

Team Canada scored three consecutive power play goals in the second period to take a one goal lead into the second intermission. Todd Hlushko opened the scoring for Canada when he converted a Dave Tomlinson pass from the corner to get the Canadians on the board. With a Finnish player called for highsticking Canada capitalized twice on a four minute power play to take the lead. Jan Alston fired a high shot over the glove of the Finnish goalie, Qari Sulander to tie the game at the 15:56 mark of the second period. Dave McLlwain tipped a shot from St John Flame, Micki Dupont less than a minute later to give Team Canada their first lead of the game.

Finland responded early in the third period with two goals less than two minutes apart to take the lead for good. Team Canada pressed for the equalizer throughout the third period but could not convert.

Team Canada comprised of mainly Canadian players that under contract in Europe represented Canada well throughout the event but managed just a single point in 4 games in Stockholm. The tournament will wrap up tomorrow with Russia vs Czech and Finland taking on the Swedes. The Canadian players will depart for their club teams tomorrow morning.
