Selection Camp News

Team Canada Update: Dec. 13, 2000

Canada's National Junior Team assembled in North York, ON for the first day of Selection Camp Wednesday. The players arrived from throughout the country, excited about the opportunity to represent their country.

There's alot going on on the first day, as everyone checks their equipment, sets up their stall, goes through a medical, interviews with the media, head shots for TSN, head shots for the media guide and finally, some action.

A number of the flights were delayed, either because of the storm in Toronto or for a variety of reasons. Four players, Jay Bouwmeester, Dan Hamhuis, Barret Jackman and Nathan Smith arrived too late to take the ice Wednesday. At a team meeting tonight, the four seemed anxious to lace up for some action.

Media was on hand in great numbers, showing the interest Canadians have for this tournament. Thursday will be another day. But there's a difference. It's a game day and everyone will be out to impress Head coach Stan Butler, assistants Kevin Dickie and Mike Kelly and Director of Scouting Barry Trapp during the first intrasquad game.
