QUEBEC CLINCHES FIRST IN GROUP B

NAPANEE, ON – Team Quebec clinched first place in Group B with its third-straight win at the 2008 National Women’s Under-18 Championship.

Mélodie Daoust (Valleyfield, QC/Selects) scored two goals and singles were added by Kassie Beaudry (Rougemont, QC/Ramparts), Kayla Tutino (Lorraine, QC/Ontario Hockey Academy), Laurie Kingsbury (Valleyfield, QC/Selects), and Laurie-Anne Ménard (Chicoutimi, QC/Stars de Montreal) as Quebec beat B.C. 6-1 on Friday night at the Strathcona Paper Centre.

Quebec scored three goals in the first period, one in the second and two in the third. B.C.’s Kaleigh Fratkin (Burnaby, BC/Burnaby) scored her team’s lone goal, which came in the third.

Quebec is trying to win gold and end its streak of four-straight silver medals at this tournament. Quebec has dropped four consecutive finals to Ontario Red.

“Our goal this year, at every training camp, was to prepare to beat Ontario,” said Tutino.
