TEAM ALBERTA: The Calgary Oval X-Treme lead the 2006-2007 Western Women’s Hockey League, with the most points, wins and three players topping the scoring list. The team was established in 1995 as part of the world’s first training centre for female hockey players at the Olympic Oval in Calgary, where the elite athletes train and compete for 11 months of the year.

X-Treme successes include eight consecutive provincial titles, seven medals at Esso Women’s Nationals, two NWHL Championships and two WWHL Championships.

The team also supports individual successes which include player selections to the Canadian Olympic Team, National Women’s Team, National U22 team, as well as provincial Canada Winter Games teams.

This season, the X-Treme have six Olympic gold medallists on its roster: returning players Hayley Wickenheiser, Danielle Goyette and Colleen Sostorics, and new additions Gillian Ferrari, Gina Kingsbury and Carla MacLeod.

Outside of its WWHL regular season league games, the Calgary Oval X-Treme plays several exhibition games against NWHL and local midget AAA boys teams.

The X-Treme looks forward to returning to the Esso Women’s Nationals representing their home province of Alberta and would like to thank the host committee for hosting this prestigious event.
