2005 Esso Women's Nationals

The 2004-2005 year was very exciting in Montreal. The Montreal Axion finished in 3rd place in the general standings for a second consecutive year and won its first game ever against the Toronto Aeros powerhouse.  Many new faces have joined the Axion this season including 2 natural scorers: Gina Kingsbury (Team Canada) and Annie Desrosiers. In addition, last December, the Axion signed one of the best defenders in the world, Angela Ruggiero (from the United States). She is part of the US National, Olympic and World Championship teams and a graduate of Harvard. Angela has continued to impress since her arrival in Montreal and her start in the NWHL.

In nets, Charline Labonté (Team Canada) continues to improve day in and day out. She protects the net for the Montreal powerhouse. Jenny Lavigne, a rookie, has also been solid in front of the Axion net. Cathy Chartrand, a team veteran, leads all league defenders in points after a remarkable season. Her physical and solid play continues to improve.

Yanick Evola is in his second year as head coach of the team. He is pleased with his group’s progress. Caroline Blanchet and Claude Gobeil are the assistant coaches. They bring a wealth of experience and leadership to this team. All in all, it is a proud and competitive team.
