2008 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Ontario 8 - Finland 1

RANDELL DAZZLES CROWD WITH GREAT GOAL

London, ON – Tyler Randell called it the “nicest goal he’s ever scored.”

And it was certainly one of the nicest goals of the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge so far. At 7:30 of the third period, Randell, a native of Brampton, ON and member of Team Ontario, took the puck over the blue line into Team Finland’s end, undressed two Finnish defencemen, and finally slid the puck through the legs of goaltender Joni Ortio.

The goal was one of eight that Team Ontario put on the board in an 8-1 win over Finland at the John Labatt Centre. Ontario is now 2-0 going into Monday’s game against Team Quebec.

Team Ontario showed its depth, as seven different players scored in the win.

“We have a great 1991 age group,” Randell said after the game. “This age group is amazing.”

Matthew Duchene (Haliburton, ON/Brampton, OHL) scored two goals for Ontario and Taylor Hall (Kingston, ON/Windsor, OHL), Ryan Martindale (Brooklin, ON/Ottawa, OHL), Andrew Agozzino (Kleinburg, ON/Niagara, OHL), Case Cizikas (Mississauga, ON/Mississauga, OHL), Randell and Zach Kassian (Lasalle, ON/Peterborough, OHL) added singles.

Michael Zador was strong in Ontario’s net, making 37 saves for the win.

Teemu Pulkkinen scored Finland’s lone goal and it was his fourth of the tournament, which puts him in the lead after two days of the tournament.

Ontario leads Pool A with a 2-0 record, while Finland falls to 1-1.
