USA DOWNS ATLANTIC TO OPEN WU17 CHALLENGE
London, ON – Team USA scored early and often during its 8-0 win over Team Canada Atlantic on Saturday in the opening game of the 2008 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge at the John Labatt Centre.
Drew Shore game Team USA a 1-0 lead just 1:28 into the game, when he intercepted a Team Canada Atlantic pass and went in alone on Jonathan Connely (Edmundston, NB/Polyvalente, NBIAA). Team USA led 2-0 after one period and then struck for five goals in the middle frame
Team Atlantic, down 5-0, switched goaltenders at the 5:33 mark of the second, with Alex Newman (Hammonds Plains, NS/Halifax, NSMMHL) replacing Connely.
Team USA was led on the scoresheet by Jeremy Morin, who had two goals. Other scorers for Team USA were Sam Calabfrese, Kyle Palmieri, Steven Whitney, Jerry D'Amigo and Kevin Lynch.
Brandon Maxwell stopped 23 shots for the shutout.
