CAMPESE AND SOY LEAD OKANGAN TO 10-2 BLOWOUT OVER BANFF AT THE WSSC

CALGARY, Alta. – Matthew Campese scored four times and added one assist, Tyler Soy grabbed five assists and Zak Bowles netted two goals and one assist as the Okanagan Hockey Academy hammered the Banff Hockey Academy 10-2 in a Prep Division clash on Saturday at the World School Sport Challenge.

Campese opened the scoring with his first of the game, 9:09 into the first period for Okanagan, a period that saw Okanagan outshoot Banff 16-7. Kienan Scott made it a two-goal lead late in the period with a power-play marker to give Okanagan a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.

Okanagan entered the second period firing on all cylinders as Campese scored twice to complete the hat-trick and Bowles banged home two goals of his own, while Jack Strommen added a single to give Okanagan a commanding 7-0 lead after two periods.

Campese wasn’t done yet, adding another goal – his fourth of the game – just over three minutes into the third period. Gage Gorda made it 9-0 for Okanagan before Banff forward Givi Shepotko – who also had one assist - broke Okanagan goaltender Spencer Huff’s shutout bid 10:55 into the third period to make it 9-1. The two teams traded goals to close out the game as Boris Tobolov made it 10-1 before Kyle Stephan added a goal for Banff to make it a 10-2 final. Tobolov and Strommen also had assists to go along with their goals and Deven Sideroff picked up two assists for Okanagan.

Okanagan looks to add to their 1-1 record at the WSSC as they will square-off against Edge School in the Prep Division night-cap on Sunday, while earlier in the day Banff hopes to enter the win column when they face power-house and undefeated Czech Republic.
