FOUR-GOAL SECOND PERIOD HELPS AMERICANS TO WIN OVER SWISS

YARMOUTH, N.S. – Austin Cangelosi scored once and added an assist in a four-goal second period as the United States survived a third-period rally by Switzerland and earned a 4-3 win Tuesday at the 2012 World Junior A Challenge.

The victory clinches first place in Group B for the Americans and means they’ll have two days off to prepare for Friday’s semifinals. It’s the third time in six appearances the U.S. has earned a bye to the final four.

Vince Hinostroza, Justin Kloos and Sheldon Dries had the other goals for the Americans, who trailed 1-0 after the first period before rattling off three goals in a span of 3:55 early in the second to take a lead they would never relinquish.

Eamon McAdam picked up his second win in as many nights, making 22 saves.

Lukas Sieber, Sandro Zangger and Luca Fazzini had the goals for the Swiss, who made their return to the tournament after one year away – they won the bronze medal at their only other appearance, in Penticton, B.C., in 2010.

Luca Boltshauser took the loss in the Swiss goal, despite a 33-save performance.

While the Americans will enjoy a few days off, the Swiss will meet Canada East on Wednesday night (7 p.m. AT) in the final game of the preliminary round, with second place in the group on the line.
