2004 National U18 Club Championship

WEST 5 - ATLANTIC 3

April 21, 2004
Kenora, ON

With both teams looking for their first win, the game looked to be a tough two points. Brandon came out strong and scored an early goal to put themselves up 1-0. But Cornwall was the more disciplined team in the first and capitalized on the man advantage to tie things up at 1-1. Brandon restored it’s one goal lead at the end of the first to go ahead 2-1. Brandon increased their lead to 3-1 in the second, but a persistent Cornwall team replied to bring it back to within one. Brandon carried a 3-2 lead into the third period after a lengthy second period with two delays due to injuries. The Wheaties put things out of reach with two more in the third to go up 5-2. Cornwall added a late power-play goal, but were unable to overcome the three goal defecate. Brandon went on to win their first game of the tournament 5-3. Cornwall scored all three goals on the power-play, including two from Steven Havenga. The Thunder goalie, Chad McGuigan, was named Player-of-the-Game, after a frustrating few days waiting for his equipment to arrive, he finally received it, and was able to play his first game.
