DAY IN REVIEW / JOURNÉE EN RÉTROSPECTIVE
May 6, 2002 / le 6 mai 2002

Another exciting day has come and gone at the 2002 Royal Bank Cup in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Monday’s action saw the Chilliwack Chiefs and the OCN Blizzard pick up their first victories of the championship.

The day’s first game had the Chilliwack Chiefs defeating the Rayside Balfour Sabrecats 9-2. Jeff Tambellini scored four times in the Chiefs’ win and was named player-of-the-game for Chilliwack. Tyson Motz made 28 saves to record the victory between the pipes for the Chiefs. Scott Ransom, who was named the Sabrecats’ player-of-the-game, collected a goal and added an assist in a losing cause. The Chiefs improved to 1-1 while Rayside Balfour remains winless at 0-2.

In game two, the OCN Blizzard and Ottawa Junior Senators battled hard and long, with the Blizzard coming out on top 4-3 in double overtime. After no scoring in the first overtime, Jamie Muswagon put a puck past Ottawa goalie Mathieu Blanchard to give the Blizzard the win at the 8:06 mark of the second overtime. Everett Bear scored two third period goals for the Blizzard forcing the game into overtime. Greg LeBlanc, Murray Magill and Mike Richard scored for Ottawa while Justin Tetrault had the other OCN goal. Bear was named player-of-the-game for the Blizzard while Murray Magill took the honours for the Senators. Both teams now have a record of 1-1.

Day four of the 2002 Royal Bank Cup features only one game, with the Halifax Oland Exports hosting the Ottawa Junior Senators at 7:00 pm. All games are being played at the Halifax Forum.
