CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada announced Thursday the 23 players that have been selected to be a part of Canada’s National Women’s Team for the 2014 4 Nations Cup, taking place Nov. 4-8 at the Interior Savings Centre in Kamloops, B.C.

Canada’s roster for the 2014 4 Nations Cup includes three goaltenders, seven defencemen and 13 forwards, who were selected following Canada’s National Women’s Team September Camp/Fall Festival from Sept. 22-28 in Calgary.

The 2014 4 Nations Cup will bring together four top women’s hockey countries in the world - Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States – for the 19th annual international tournament.

Canada’s National Women’s Team roster for the 2014 4 Nations Cup includes:

  • 10 players who won a gold medal with Canada’s National Women’s Team at the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia (Fortino, Irwin, Johnston, Lacasse, Larocque, Poulin, Rougeau, Spooner, Wakefield, Watchorn);
  • 13 players who won a gold medal with Canada’s National Women’s Team at the 2013 4 Nations Cup in Lake Placid, N.Y. (Birchard, Bram, Fortino, Irwin, Johnston, Kohanchuk, Lacasse, Larocque, Poulin, Rougeau, Spooner, Wakefield, Watchorn);
  • five players who were a part of Canada’s National Women’s Development Team for a three-game series against the United States in Calgary in August (Ambrose, Clark, Krzyzaniak, Maschmeyer, Turnbull);
  • 10 players who will make their debut with Canada’s National Women’s Team at the 2014 4 Nations Cup (Ambrose, Campbell, Clark, Howe, Krzyzaniak, Maschmeyer, Rattray, Saulnier, Terry, Turnbull).

“This is an exciting announcement, as we kick off another Olympic cycle and introduce new players to Canada’s National Women’s Team, and to Canadian hockey fans,” said Doug Derraugh, head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Team. “We’re looking forward to coming together as a team, getting on the ice in Kamloops and representing our country.”

The 2014 4 Nations Cup will serve as an evaluation opportunity for Canada’s National Women’s Team coaching staff and Hockey Canada scouts, led by Melody Davidson, general manager of national women’s team programs, for the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Malmö, Sweden, and in the long term for the 2018 Olympic Winter Games in PyeongChang, South Korea. Players will continue to be evaluated with their club teams during the 2014-15 season, leading up to the world championship next April.

Ticket packages for the 2014 4 Nations Cup are on sale and includes tickets to all eight tournament games, including the gold medal game, for just $99. For more information on tickets, and to purchase, CLICK HERE.
