CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada, along with the host organizing committee for the 2015 and 2017 World Junior Championships, has announced the management team, led by executive director Pat McEleney, for the two events, scheduled for Dec. 26, 2014 to Jan. 5, 2015 and Dec. 26, 2016 to Jan. 5, 2017 in Montreal, Que., and Toronto, Ont.

The general managers for both Montreal and Toronto have also been named. Marie-Christine Boucher will work with all major partners in the delivery of the Montreal portion of the tournament, while Darryl Boynton will hold the same position in Toronto.

Pat McEleney is responsible for the overall delivery of both tournaments, including ensuring a strong legacy is left for both communities and the game of hockey. He most recently led the sports and entertainment division of Molson Coors, and was involved in the creation and development of some of Canada’s largest events, including the Molson Indy, the NHL-Molson partnership, and Olympic programming. McEleney has extensive experience in the sponsorship and events community across the country and has worked closely with the Montreal Canadiens and Toronto Maple Leafs in his roles at Molson Coors.

Marie-Christine Boucher was most recently the general manager of the Trois-Rivères Aigles of the Can-Am Baseball League, responsible for business and baseball operations. She also spent two years as director of sales, marketing and operations with the QMJHL’s Shawinigan Cataractes as they prepared to host the 2012 MasterCard Memorial Cup, and six years as manager of events and communications with the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation. Boucher has extensive experience in hockey in Quebec, having worked in various positions with the Montreal Canadiens, Hockey Canada’s Quebec Centre of Excellence, and Hockey Quebec.

Darryl Boynton spent the last eight years as manager of Hockey Canada’s Ontario Regional Centre, and was the primary point of contact for all development, high performance and marketing programs in Toronto, managing the Hockey Canada Skills Camp program across Ontario while providing on-site logistics for all national team camps and events in the city. Prior to joining Hockey Canada, Boynton spent two years as manager of marketing and events with the Canadian Hockey League, and has previous IIHF World Junior Championship experience as CHL media relations coordinator at the 2003 event in Halifax, N.S.

“This is a tremendous team Hockey Canada has put together to lead the 2015 and 2017 IIHF World Junior Championships,” said Mike Ross, Hockey Canada’s chief business officer and a member of the event steering committee. “Pat, Marie-Christine and Darryl each bring different backgrounds and different areas of expertise to the team, and we look forward to them coming together to ensure the success of these two events.”

The organization of the 2015 and 2017 IIHF World Junior Championships will be led by Hockey Canada, in collaboration with Hockey Quebec, the Ontario Hockey Federation, the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens, and Maple Leafs Sports and Entertainment.

Both cities will host a preliminary round group at each event, with Toronto hosting the medal round in 2015 and Montreal hosting the medal round in 2017. Canada’s National Junior Team will be based in Montreal for the round robin in 2015, and in Toronto in 2017.
