Canada’s National Sledge Team advances to semifinals at 2015 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship

Canada’s National Sledge Team has advanced to the semifinals at the 2015 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship after finishing first in Group A with a perfect 3-0 record during preliminary round play.

It will meet Russia in the semifinals on Friday at HarborCenter. The puck drops at 4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT.

Canada capped the round robin with a 2-0 win over the Czech Republic on Wednesday. Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.) scored both goals and Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) needed to make just three saves to record his third shutout in as many starts.

Canada also earned wins over Japan (17-0) and Norway (5-0) in the preliminary round.

Norway finished second in Group A, followed by the Czech Republic and Japan. The United States, Russia, Italy and Germany were the top four finishers in Group B.

Semifinal schedule (May 1)

Canada vs. Russia              4:30 p.m. ET/1:30 p.m. PT

United States vs. Norway  8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT

In seven appearances at the IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship, Canada has won three gold medals (2000, 2008, 2013) and three bronze medals (1996, 2009, 2012), finishing fourth in 2004.
