How did the Sault Ste. Marie North Stars roll to a 32-1-1 record in the Great North Midget League this season? Easy – they scored, then they scored again, then they scored some more. The 2013 TELUS Cup hosts filled the net at an unbelievable pace, racking up 267 goals in 34 games, an average of slightly less than eight per game. Not surprisingly, Soo players were prominent on the GNML scoring chart, taking the top four spots. Three forwards – Anthony Stefano, Ryan Vendramin and Devin Shell – finished in the top five in league scoring for the second year in a row, with Stefano’s 99 points leading the way. Even with the high-powered offence the North Stars were no slouches on defensive end, allowing a league-low 73 goals. The brother tandem of Jacob and Brian Kment finished first and third, respectively, in goals-against average, at 2.00 and 2.21.
