TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – CENTRAL PLAINS CAPITALS
Defence wins championships – or, in this case, the MFMHL regular season title for the Central Plains Capitals. Goaltenders Lauren Tarashuk and Kathleen Kosior allowed only 37 goals during the 30-game schedule, earning eight shutouts and posting a collective 1.28 goals-against average and .939 save percentage. That steady last line of defence helped compensate for an offence that ranked fifth in the seven-team league and led to a 29-point improvement from the 2013-14 season. After finishing October with a 4-3 record, the Capitals ran off win streaks of five, eight and five games to claim victory in 19 of their last 22 contests; two more wins gave the team the tiebreaker over the Westman Wildcats. Emily Upgang and Sheridan Oswald finished top five in scoring, with Upgang tying for third in the league in goals. Fellow forwards Mekaela Fisher (21 points) and Chelsea Hallson (18 points) helped spread out the scoring, while Tamara McVannel chipped in 19 points from the blue-line.
