CALGARY, Alta. – Scott Salmond has been named vice-president of hockey operations and national teams with Hockey Canada, effective immediately. The announcement was made on Friday by Scott Smith, Hockey Canada's chief operating officer. Salmond takes over for Brad Pascall, who stepped down earlier this month to take a position as assistant general manager of the NHL’s Calgary Flames.

“Hockey Canada is very fortunate to have Scott in place to take over as vice-president of hockey operations and men’s national teams,” said Smith. “In his role as senior director, he played a key role in supporting the vice-president in growing our high performance department and our teams through great success.”

Salmond originally joined Hockey Canada in 2001 after five years at BC Hockey. The native of Creston, B.C., served as manager of high performance from 2001 to 2005, as director of men’s national teams from 2005 to 2010 and finally as senior director of hockey operations and men’s national teams from July 2010 until today's announcement. In his most recent role, Salmond assisted the vice-president in overseeing hockey operations for Canada’s men’s teams, Canada’s National Junior Team, national under-18 program, national under-17 program and Canada's National Sledge Team. 

Salmond worked with the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence management group this past season, and was responsible for revamping the under-17 program and establishing a gold standard for the Program of Excellence in collaboration with Hockey Canada’s 13 regional branches. He has helped Canada win numerous gold medals at the international level, including gold medals in men’s hockey at the 2010 and 2014 Olympic Winter Games, at the 2003 and 2004 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championships and at the 2007, 2008 and 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships.
