HELSINKI, Finland – Hockey Canada and Canada's National Junior Team extend their condolences to the family of assistant coach Dominique Ducharme whose father, Jacques, passed away on Dec. 29.

Ducharme, who learned of his father’s passing after Tuesday’s game where Team Canada won 3-2 in a shootout against Switzerland, has decided to remain with the team through the end of the 2016 IIHF World Junior Championship.

“Our hearts go out to Dom and his family during this difficult time,” said Scott Salmond, vice-president of hockey operations and national teams for Hockey Canada. “We fully support Dom; he is a valuable member of this team and of our coaching staff. We extend sincere condolences to the Ducharme family back in Canada.”

Canada meets Sweden in its final preliminary-round game on Thursday, Dec. 31 at 1 p.m. ET; the quarter-final games begin on Jan. 2.
