MINSK, Belarus – Canada’s National Men’s Team has been eliminated in the quarter-finals at the 2014 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, losing 3-2 to Finland on Thursday. The loss means Canada finishes in fifth place.

After Finland opened the scoring on a first-period power play, goals by Kyle Turris (New Westminster, B.C./Ottawa, NHL) and Mark Scheifele (Kitchener, Ont./Winnipeg, NHL) gave Canada a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. But the Finns tied the game 28 seconds into the third period, and got the winner with 3:08 to go to eliminate the Canadians.

Finland will face the Czech Republic in the semifinals, while Russia will take on Sweden. Both semifinals will take place Saturday, May 24, with the bronze medal game and gold medal game set for Sunday, May 25.
