CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada announced Wednesday the 58 players that will attend Canada’s National Women’s Team Fall Festival, taking place Sept. 22-28 at WinSport’s Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary.

The roster includes six goaltenders, 16 defencemen and 36 forwards, who will be split up into Black, Red and White teams for practices and intrasquad games.

The camp will serve as an important evaluation opportunity for Canada’s National Women’s Team coaching staff, including head coach Doug Derraugh and assistant coaches Tim Bothwell and Dwayne Gylywoychuk, and Team Canada scouts, led by Melody Davidson, Hockey Canada’s general manager of national women’s team programs.

Following Canada’s National Women’s Team Fall Festival, players will be monitored at international events, such as the 2014 4 Nations Cup in Kamloops, B.C., as well as with their club teams during the 2014-15 season. These evaluations will assist coaches and scouts in selecting the team that will represent Canada at the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Malmö, Sweden, next April.

“We’re excited about the group of 58 players we have coming to Calgary later this month,” said Davidson. “It’s a tremendous opportunity for the next generation of players to push for spots, so we’re expecting a very competitive camp to kick off the 2014-15 season.”
