Just over one month before they will wear the Maple Leaf at the 2012 Canada-Russia Challenge, 13 members of Team Canada pulled on jerseys of a different kind at the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Ryan Murray led the way after being selected second overall by the Columbus Blue Jackets, the first of seven players picked in the first round; he also led a parade of Canadian defencemen onto the stage in Pittsburgh – following Murray were Griffin Reinhart (No. 4 to the New York Islanders), Morgan Rielly (No. 5 to Toronto) and Mathew Dumba (No. 7 to Minnesota) in the top 10.

Of the 10 players who will man the Canadian blue-line, seven were first-rounders, including five in the first 10 selections of the 20 drafts.

Canada’s 28-player roster includes 13 first-round picks, seven second-rounders, two selected in the third round and one each from the fourth, fifth and sixth rounds. Three players – Maxime Lagacé, Sean Monahan and Hunter Shinkaruk – are eligible for the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.
