PRINCE EDWARD ISLAND CHAMPIONS – KINGS COUNTY KINGS

It has been a few years since the Kings County Kings have ruled the female Midget kingdom on Prince Edward Island. The last and only time they made it to the Atlantic Female Midget Championship was in 2008, the event’s inaugural year as an official regional championship. There’s no doubt the Kings will be looking to beat their fifth place finish at their last appearance and claim the Atlantic throne for their first time ever. Kings County, a team based out of eastern P.E.I., made it to the Atlantic Female Midget Championship by collecting 44 points and coming in first for the 2010-11 regular season and carrying that momentum into the provincial championship, held March 18-20 in Charlottetown. They swept the tournament in five straight wins to claim Prince Edward Island gold. And if they can do that, who knows what they can do if they make it to St. Albert, Alta., where the top female midget teams in the country will face off at the 2011 Esso Cup, Canada’s National Female Midget Championship. Perhaps the Kings will live up to their team name.

NOTE: Although Kings County earned its way to the 2011 Atlantic Female Midget Championship, the team is hosting the event so would have been participating by default without having to win the Prince Edward Island provincial championship. However, since Kings County did win provincials, silver medal-winning Western will also take part in the Atlantic championship, by default representing Hockey P.E.I. at the event.
