EDMONTON, Alta. – Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Hockey League (CHL), updated the status of forward Devante Smith-Pelly (Scarborough, Ont./ Anaheim, NHL) late Monday night, after he was injured Monday afternoon blocking a shot against Finland.

Smith-Pelly has suffered a broken bone in his right foot and will miss the remainder of the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship.  Smith-Pelly will remain with the team at this time.

Canada’s cannot replace Smith-Pelly on its IIHF World Junior Championship roster, since teams only have a total of 22 roster positions. The only situation in which a team could add another player in addition to the 22 player roster, would be in the case of a goaltender injury.

Canada has medalled at 13 consecutive IIHF World Junior Championships, including gold medal performances in 2005, 2006, 2007, 20, silver medals in 1999, 2002, 2003, 2004, 20 and bronze medals in 20.
