CALGARY – Hockey Canada, in partnership with Molson Canadian, announced on xxx the four adult recreational teams – two from Alberta and two from across Canada – that have won the Ultimate Adult Recreational Hockey Experience – the chance to be treated like one of Canada’s national teams.
The four winning teams are:
Arnprior Bighorns - Arnprior Men’s Rec League
Ottawa District Hockey Association
Calgary Commodores - SAIT Alumni Hockey League
Hockey Alberta
GMAC Wizards - Charlottetown TSE’s Rec League
Hockey Prince Edward Island
Roswell Hammerheads - Alberta Men’s Hockey League
Hockey Alberta
The four winning teams – which were randomly selected from all contest entries received at www.molsoncanadian.ca – will be flown to Hockey Canada’s head office in Calgary from February 26-March 1, where they will receive exclusive world-class training at Team Canada’s facility, including private coaching sessions from guest coaches and exhibition games. In addition, all four teams will be outfitted with the full uniform of Canada’s national teams.
“We're excited for our boys to experience a true taste of Canadian hockey, and we are looking forward to witnessing the transformation from average Joe to hockey pro,” said Chris Bell, manager of sponsorship operations with Molson.
In addition, it was announced that Ray Cote, Al MacNeil, Gord Sherven and Brian Skrudland will serve as guest coaches.
Cote played 102 games with Canada’s National Men’s Team over four seasons (1985-87, 1988-89, 1990-91), MacNeil won a Stanley Cup as head coach of the Montreal Canadiens in 1971 and was the first head coach of the Calgary Flames after the team moved from Atlanta in 1980, Sherven was the first player to play for Canada at the IIHF World Junior Championship and IIHF World Championship in the same season (1983) and played for Canada at the 1988 Winter Olympics, and Skrudland won a pair of Stanley Cups (Montreal, 1986; Dallas, 1999) during a 15-year NHL career.
Hockey Canada’s adult recreational program allows players to register with Hockey Canada through its member branches under its all-encompassing insurance program for a flat fee of only $20. This is part of Hockey Canada’s mandate to provide service to all levels of hockey in Canada. For more information on how to register, contact Bryan Swain at [email protected].
The adult recreational program is in place to provide adult recreation players across Canada with health and safety awareness, access to Hockey Canada’s current resources, league scheduling and stats program, future regional and national adult recreation events, and great insurance while being involved in Hockey Canada-sanctioned activities. This eliminates or minimizes the potential financial burden members may face in the event that they are injured or implicated in a civil action arising from their participation.
