CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada announced on Tuesday 21 players who will comprise Canada’s National Women’s Under-22 Team at the 2010 MLP Cup, January 5-9, 2010 in Ravensburg, Germany. One more player will be added before the team departs Canada on January 2.

Canada’s roster includes 18 of the 22 players who dressed for Canada in a three-game series against Canada’s National Women’s Team in Calgary in August. The under-22 team came out on the losing end of all three games against the national side.

Brianne Jenner (Oakville, Ont.) and Jocelyne Larocque (Ste. Anne, Man.) have been added to Canada’s roster for the 2010 MLP Cup. Both players were centralized with Canada’s National Women’s Team in preparation for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, but were released on November 25. Larocque has played 22 games with Canada’s National Women’s Under-22 Team since making her debut in January 2006, while Jenner will play for the under-22 team for the first time.

“We are thrilled that we can name these 21 players today who will represent Canada in Germany,” said Margot Page, head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Under-22 Team. “The experience these players received by playing against the national team in August was key to their development, and we look forward to continuing that development in Europe come January.”

Canada’s roster includes 11 players who won silver at the 2009 MLP Cup (Bendus, Bettez, Birchard, Blais, Bram, Deluce, Kessler, Larocque, Rougeau, Smith, Spooner) and three players who won silver with Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team at the 2009 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship (Fortino, Jenner, Wong).

Canada is the six-time champion at the MLP Cup, winning gold in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 20 before settling for the silver medal in 2009. Canada will play in Group A with Finland and Russia, while Germany, Sweden and Switzerland will make up Group B.
