Hockey Canada to Auction Off Game Worn Jerseys From 2008 IIHF World Championship
CALGARY, AB – Hockey fans from around the world will have the chance to win game worn jerseys from Canada’s National Men’s Team at the 2008 IIHF World Championship.
Hockey Canada will hold an auction of Team Canada game worn red jerseys, starting on Friday, December 5 at 12 p.m. EST at www.hockeycanada.ca and www.eBay.ca. The auction will end on Friday, December 12.
Among the jerseys up for grabs are those of captain Shane Doan, Ryan Getzlaf, Mike Green, Rick Nash and Cam Ward. Canada won silver at the 2008 IIHF World Championship, losing the final in overtime to Russia in one of the most exciting finishes in IIHF World Championship history.
The jerseys up for auction are the new style of Team Canada jerseys. They include Zepter International logos on both arms, a Nike logo on the front and an IIHF 100th-anniversary logo on the bottom back.
The 2008 IIHF World Championship marked the first time the event was held in Canada in the 100-year history of the International Ice Hockey Federation. Canada fell just short in its attempt to become the first team to win the gold medal on home ice since 1986.
Net proceeds from this jersey auction will go to the Hockey Canada Foundation to assist with the funding of national development programs, national teams and Hockey Canada initiatives that promote the sport at the grassroots level.
