The CJAHL in partnership with Hockey Canada announced today the coaching staff for Team Canada East at the upcoming 2007 World Junior A Challenge.

Jerome Dupont, the current President and Head Coach of the Aurora Tigers of the Ontario Provincial Junior A Hockey League, was named Head Coach. Jerome recently guided the Aurora Tigers to the National Junior A Championship, the 2007 RBC Royal Bank Cup. It is the second time in four years the Tigers have been national champions. Jerome also guided Team Canada East to a silver medal finish at the 2006 World Junior A Challenge.

“We are very delighted to appoint Jerome as the Head Coach for Team Canada East, for the second consecutive year,” beamed Team Canada East General Manager, Marty Abrams.

“Jerome did an outstanding job last year for our squad at the World Junior A Challenge. We are very optimistic Jerome will be able to repeat this great work, as we strive to win a gold medal for Team Canada East.”

“It is an honor for me to again be named Head Coach at this year’s World Junior A Challenge,” stated Dupont. “I truly enjoyed the experience of coaching with Team Canada last year, and I am very optimistic that my coaching staff and I will do everything we can in our efforts to field a championship team this fall.”

Mark Grady, the current Head Coach of the Cumberland Grads of the Central Junior A Hockey League, was one of the two individuals named to the role of Assistant Coach. Troy Ryan of the Pictou County Weeks Crushers of the Maritime Junior A Hockey League, was also named to the role of Assistant Coach. Troy returns for his second stint as an assistant coach at the World Junior A Challenge.

“Marty Abrams and I are very proud to have Mark Grady and Troy Ryan as Assistant Coaches for Team Canada East,” declared Brent Ladds, CJAHL Team Canada East Representative. “Both of these gentlemen are very successful coaches of Junior A hockey organizations, and will be integral in assisting Head Coach Jerome Dupont in our quest to be the gold medal winning team in this year’s event.”

The 2007 World Junior A Challenge will take place from November 5th to 11th in Trail and Nelson, BC. Canada will look to continue its success at the event, as Team Canada East played Team Canada West in the championship finals of the 2006 World Junior A Challenge.

The CJAHL is an amalgamation of ten Junior A hockey leagues from across Canada. More information on the CJAHL can be found by clicking on the league website, www.cjahl.com.
