CALGARY, AB – Hockey Canada is reaching out to the hundreds of thousands of Canadians affiliated with minor hockey from coast to coast to help with the review of the Canadian Development Model, launching a survey at www.hockeycanada.ca/cdm with an open invitation to the general public to give their input on the two-year-old program.

Introduced at the start of the 2005-06 season, the Canadian Development Model has the goal of assisting in the progressive development of Canadian players, ensuring that the top amateur players in Canada stay within the Canadian club system.

The Canadian Development Model was introduced by Hockey Canada as a way of regulating the placement of young players into the elite streams of Junior and Major Junior programs across Canada. By placing caps on the number of underage (15 and 16 years old) players who can be on the roster of a Major Junior, Junior A, Junior B, Junior C and Junior D teams, the goal is to ensure that these players continue their development at the Midget AA and Midget AAA level.

The responses received from the general public will be combined with responses from Canadian Hockey League (CHL) participants, Canadian Junior A Hockey League (CJAHL) participants and Junior B, C, D and Midget AAA participants, along with board members from each of Hockey Canada’s 13 Branches. The findings of the Canadian Development Model survey will be presented to Hockey Canada Officers and the Hockey Canada Board of Directors at the Annual General Meeting in May 2008.

The survey will be available online until at www.hockeycanada.ca/cdm.
