Eighteen Canadian Officials Approved for IIHF Events During 2007-2008 Season

CALGARY, AB – Eighteen Canadian officials have been approved by the International Ice Hockey Federation to work at nine different IIHF world championships during the 2007-2008 season. All eighteen officials are products of the Hockey Canada Officiating Program.

Hockey Canada recommended a number of candidates to the IIHF this past summer, and at the IIHF Semi-Annual Congress in Vancouver, BC earlier this month the IIHF approved a number of nominations, including eighteen Canadians.

Referee selections for the 2008 IIHF World Championship, which will be held in Halifax, NS and Quebec City, QC from May 2-18, 2008, will be made in January following a complete evaluation of the four-man system, which will be in place for the 2008 IIHF World Junior Championship, to in Pardubice and Liberec, Czech Republic.

Four Canadian officials – Francis Charron (Gatineau, QC), Marc Muylaert (Verdun, QC), Guy Pellerin (Dieppe, NB) and Chris Savage (Medicine Hat, AB) – have been named to the long list of referees under consideration for a position at the 2008 IIHF World Championship.

The Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) is for anyone interested in officiating the game of hockey, from beginners to seasoned veterans. There are six levels in the HCOP, from those looking to get started, to the top tier of officials.
