The countdown is on for Yorkton as the city will be in the international hockey spotlight when it hosts the first-ever World Junior A Challenge November 6-12th.

This international event will feature Canada West and Canada East all-star teams, as well as teams from Russia, Germany, Belarus and Slovakia.

Fans have added incentives to get their ticket packages early. Besides great package pricing, anyone purchasing an advanced ticket prior to October 18th will have a chance to win on of three prize packages from Hockey Canada.

First prize – Hockey Canada Premier Package – Hockey Canada Leather Coat, Hockey Canada bar fridge, signed jerseys from the Canada West and Canada East teams (valued at $1000)

Second prize – Hockey Canada Fairways Package – Nike golf club set, Hockey Canada golf bag and autographed World Junior A Challenge player jersey (valued at $850)

Third prize – World Junior A Challenge/CJAHL Package – Money back on your 2006 WJAC package, one free WJAC ticket package, a CJAHL season ticket package to the team of your choice, and an autographed team jersey from the CJAHL team of your choice (valued at $500)

The draw will be made on October 18th at the Yorkton Terrier home game against the Notre Dame Hounds.

“Ticket sales are going well, with sales picking up now that hockey season has started again,” says Dick DeRyk. “The interest in this event from the hockey community has been phenomenal. We expect about 50 scouts from across North America to be in attendance.”

Fans attending the October 11th Terrier game against Weyburn will get the first opportunity to learn which players will make up the Canada West all-star team. The team will be announced at the game, with the national announcement not going out until the next day. Also at that time, special presentations will be made to the members of the Canada West staff in attendance - Terrier trainer Ron Holloway, as well as Weyburn coach Dwight McMillan and therapist Don Pindus.

Advanced ticket packages are only $99 plus GST and include a ticket for each of the 8 games in Yorkton, including the medal round games. They can be purchased at the World Junior A Challenge office in the Gallagher Centre or by calling 783-3909.
