The Yorkton Terriers made good on their defense of the 2004-05 Credential Cup by defeating the Battlefords North Stars four games to one in the 2005-06 Credential Cup final.

The Terriers ended the SJHL playoffs on a hot streak with eleven wins in twelve games. They got off to a slow start, losing the Sherwood Conference Selection Series to the Notre Dame Hounds and then dropping two of the first three games to the Weyburn Red Wings in the Sherwood Conferene semi-final. However, they rebounded to win the next three against the Red Wings and, subsequently, swept the Hounds in the Sherwood Conference final four games to none. In the Credential Cup final, they won game one against the Stars, lost game two, and then rallied to win the next three.

The Terriers were led in the playoffs by 1985 born defenseman Dustin Nehring, who racked up a league high 24-points (6-goals and 18-assists) in 18-postseason games. Nehring's four point effort in a game three victory over Battlefords will go down as one of the biggest single player clutch performances in league history. 1985 born forward Chris Korchinski won the SJHL scoring title during the regular season and finished one point behind Nehring in the playoff scoring race. He led all SJHLers with 17-playoff goals.

Yorkton's strength is predicated on their ability to dominate down low. The duo of Korchinski and Jason Wagar have been unmatched in that capacity for two seasons now. Michael Holmes, a crafty winger, rounds out the first line. Justin Menke, Barry Sparvier, and Craig Straightnose have formed an excellent second line that bangs and crashes its way to offensive chances. A third scoring line of 1987 born Chad Nehring with 1986 born winger Scott Woytas and 1988 born winger Derek Serdachny has provided a great deal of energy in the playoffs. This trio learns from the other two lines and uses grit and determination for its success.

On the back end, the Terriers have a defense that loves to block shots in front of netminder Brett Bothwell. Captain Brett McRuvie is in his fourth and final season with the club, while Nehring blocks more shots than he takes. The Kris Carver-Shane Koehler pairing has emerged as a real shutdown partnership when it comes to stopping opposition scoring chances.

In goal, Bothwell has been a steady performer and his mental make-up showed through in game five against the Stars when he was spectacular in making 28-saves. The 1986 born native of Red Deer is backed up by the capable 1987 born Lynden Sammartino, who posted a 10-2-1, 2.03, .926 mark during the regular season.
