Sixteen Canadian Officials Approved for IIHF Events During 2006-2007 Season

CALGARY, AB – Sixteen Canadian officials have been approved by the International Ice Hockey Federation to work at eight different IIHF world championships during the 2006-2007 season. All sixteen officials are products of the Hockey Canada Officiating Program.

Hockey Canada recommended a number of candidates to the IIHF this past summer, and at the IIHF Semi-Annual Congress in Athens, Greece earlier this month the IIHF approved a number of nominations, including sixteen Canadians.

Dr. Maurice Roy, Hockey Canada’s referee-in-chief, will be the supervisor for the World Under-18 Hockey Championship, while Jaquie Palm (World Women’s Hockey Championship) and Kevin Muench (World Junior Hockey Championship, Div. I, Group B) will attend as supervisors-in-training.

The Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) is for anyone interested in officiating the game of hockey, from beginners to seasoned veterans. There are six levels in the HCOP, from those looking to get started, to the top tier of officials.
