BRAMPTON, ON – The two teams who will face-off during Sunday’s 2006 RBC Royal Bank Cup Championship game have now been determined. The Burnaby Express and the Yorkton Terriers will compete for Canada’s most prestigious junior Championship, the RBC Royal Bank Cup on Sunday at the Powerade Centre in Brampton, ON. The puck will drop at 7:30pm ET and will be broadcast on Hockey Canada’s Official Broadcaster TSN/RDS at 9:30pm ET immediately following Game 5 of the Carolina/New Jersey Eastern Conference Quarter-Final matchup. In their lone round robin matchup the Burnaby Express defeated Yorkton Terriers 4-2.

Burnaby, the number two seed following the round robin needed some last minute heroics to reach Sunday’s final. Down 2-0 with less than two minutes remaining, Burnaby scored on the power-play with 1:53 remaining to cut the lead to 2-1 and tied it up with 11 seconds left when Kyle Turris ripped one past Carter Hutton. Despite the brilliant play of Fort William netminder Carter Hutton, Fort William could not contain the re-energized Express and at the 6:19 mark of the first overtime period, Mark Soares, who was named the tournament’s Most Sportsmanlike Player scored to complete the comeback for Burnaby.

Yorkton, who squeaked into the final four after a 1-3 record in the round robin looked to the player who has been their go-to-guy the entire season. Kris Korchinski, who was named the Top Forward of the tournament on Friday night, notched two goals in the first five minutes of the game which proved to be all they needed as they defeated the host Streetsville Derbys 2-1. Yorkton goaltender Brett Bothwell did not face many shots, but was sharp when needed while his counterpart at the other end of the ice, David Wilson, did his very best to give his team a chance to win stopping 37 shots in a losing cause.
