Canada's National Men's Sledge Hockey Team Preparing for The 2005 USA Sledge Hockey World Cup in Arvada, Colorado

Calgary, AB  – Canada’s National Men’s Sledge Hockey Team will be departing on Sunday for the 2005 USA Sledge Hockey World Cup in Arvada, Colorado which takes place April 11 to 15th, 2005.  Hosted by the National Sports Center for the Disabled, this World Cup for Sledge Hockey features three sledge hockey nations: United States, Norway and Canada.

The Canadian National Sledge Hockey is currently undefeated in all nine international games they have played during the 2004-2005 season and is looking at continuing its winning streak with its opening game vs. USA on April 12th at 10:00 am local time in Arvada, Colorado.

Sledge Hockey, which has been an associate member of Hockey Canada since 1993, was approved by Hockey Canada’s Board of Directors as a full member of Hockey Canada at its Annual General Meeting in May, 2004.  With that decision, Canada’s National Sledge Hockey Team that will participate at the 2006 Paralympic Games in Italy falls under the supervision and direction of Hockey Canada.  Canada’s National Sledge Hockey Team won the 2000 World Championship, and finished fourth at the 2004 World Championship in Sweden.  The National Sledge Hockey Team has also established themselves internationally as the silver medal winners at the 1998 Nagano Paralympic Games and finished 4th at the 2002 Salt Lake City Paralympic Games.

The 2005 Sledge Hockey World Cup schedule is as follows (all times are MT):

Tuesday, April 12:
10 am- Canada vs. USA
7 pm: Norway vs. USA

Wednesday, April 13:
10 am - Norway vs. Canada
7 pm: USA vs. Canada

Thursday, April 14:
10 am - Canada vs. Norway
7 pm: USA vs. Norway

Friday, April 15:
GOLD MEDAL GAME IS SET FOR 7 PM WITH #1 seed vs. #2 seed
