Dawson Creek Minor Hockey Winner of The Hockey Canada Week Contest

CALGARY, AB – Dawson Creek Minor Hockey Association of Dawson Creek, British Columbia has been chosen as the winner of the ‘Hockey Canada Week 2004 - Minor Hockey Association Contest’, and will receive $10,000 in Easton product.

Dawson Creek was one of nine minor hockey associations to enter the contest.  Associations conducted an activity during Hockey Canada Week (November 7-14, 2004) to promote hockey in a positive way.

Dawson Creek is a small association with only 340 registered minor hockey players. Their Hockey Canada Week events that included: the Mayor of Dawson Creek, Wayne Dahlen, and the President of Dawson Creek Minor Hockey, Jack Walsh, proclaiming November 7-14 “Hockey Canada Week”, all teams taking part in team photos, all players receiving a Hockey Canada Itech Design-A-Mask contest entry form, introduction of the association’s new website, and the creation and distribution of a Dawson Creek Minor Hockey newsletter.

Cindy Fisher, VP of Publicity, for Dawson Creek Minor Hockey was thrilled when notified that they had won the contest, “…We want our players to have fun and make life-long memories and friendships…  We are already in the process of planning events for Hockey Canada Week 2005 and hope to make it even more successful than 2004!”

Allan Matthews, Chair of the Board for Hockey Canada, applauded the efforts of the Dawson Creek Minor Hockey Association, "Dawson Creek Minor Hockey is to be congratulated for their efforts to promote hockey and its values within their community. Hockey is Canada's game and we need to celebrate both the game and those volunteers, players, coaches, and officials who participate and spend countless hours each year devoting themselves to skill development, sportsmanship, and teamwork."

Hockey Canada Week, which ran from November 7-14, was a celebration of the beginning of the hockey season all across Canada and aimed to promote the positive values of hockey and the work done by the over four-million volunteers involved in minor hockey in Canada each and every year.

Hockey Canada Week is a national initiative led by Hockey Canada with the participation of Branches, minor hockey associations and other community or corporate partners.

The 2005 Hockey Canada Week will take place November 7.
