TORONTO, ON – Team Canada will face the Russians tonight at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto to close out the last of their round robin games. Canada has a perfect 2-0 record heading into the game, and is looking for the win which would place them atop the North American Pool. Russia has only played one game, beating the US 3-1in St.Paul, MN and will face the Slovaks on Sunday in their last round robin game.

Team Canada has faced the Russians in Toronto twice before in best-on-best competitions. The first meeting was 32 years ago today, in the infamous Summit Series, with the Canadians coming away with a 4-1 win. The second meeting between these two hockey powerhouses came during the 1976 Canada Cup, and again the Canadians defeated the Russians by a score of 3-1.

Team Canada defensemen, Jay Bouwmeester will dress for his first game of the tournament as he replaces the injured Wade Redden on the Canadian blue line. Martin Brodeur will get the start in the net for Canada as he looks for his third straight win. Canada’s speedy forward, Martin St.Louis is tied for the lead in scoring with two goals, and two assists for four points in 2 games.

Canada’s next game will be the quarter final played at the Air Canada Centre on Wednesday, September 8th.
