Humboldt and Camrose to Face Off for 2003 Royal Bank Cup
CHARLOTTETOWN, PE – After seven days of competition and two one-goal semi-final games, it has come down to the Humboldt Broncos (West Region) and the Camrose Kodiaks (Pacific Region) facing off for the 2003 Royal Bank Cup.
The Humboldt Broncos and the Camrose Kodiaks will meet in Sunday’s Royal Bank Cup championship game, which will be played at the Charlottetown Civic Centre in Charlottetown, PE at 2:00pm (Atlantic Time), 1:00pm (Eastern time) and will be broadcast live across the country on TSN and RDS. Camrose defeated Humboldt 5-3 during the round robin portion of the championship earlier in the week.
In Saturday’s first semi-final, the Camrose Kodiaks defeated the Cougars de Lennoxville (East Region) 2-1, giving them a berth in Sunday’s championship game. Netminder Mike Brodeur backstopped the Kodiaks to the win stopping 40 of 41 shots and being named player-of-the-game. Camrose finished the round robin portion of the championship in first place with a 3-1 record.
Saturday’s second semi-final featured a great contest between the Humboldt Broncos and the Wellington Dukes, with the Broncos coming out on top by a 3-2 score. Keith Reade added his second goal of the game with only 2:39 remaining in the game to secure the win. For his efforts, Reade was named player-of-the-game for the Broncos. Humboldt finished the round robin portion of the championship in second place with a 2-2 record.
