NORTH YORK, ON - Canada's National Junior Team has released five players: defencemen Cole Jarrett, Aaron Johnson and Jeff Woywitka and forwards Yanick Lehoux and Jason Pominville, Head Coach Stan Butler announced on Thursday bringing the roster to 32 players.

The five players were returned to their respective Canadian Hockey League teams, Jarrett to the Plymouth Whalers (OHL), Johnson to the Rimouski Océanic (QMJHL), Woywitka to the Red Deer Rebels (WHL), Lehoux to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar (QMJHL) and Jason Pominville to the Shawinigan Cataractes (QMJHL).

The roster deletions reduced the National Junior Team Selection Camp roster to 32 players (4 goaltenders, 10 defencemen and 18 forwards) after three days of the seven day camp to choose the team that will represent Canada at the 2002 World Junior Hockey Championship in the Czech Republic from December 25, 2001 - January 4, 2002. The team will take 22 players - 20 skaters and two goaltenders - to the World Junior Championship.

Butler (Brampton Battalion, OHL) and assistant coaches Marc Habscheid (Kelowna Rockets, WHL) and Mike Kelly (North Bay Centennials, OHL), along with Barry Trapp, Canadian Hockey's Director of Scouting, have been evaluating the players as they have now been through daily work-outs and two intra-squad games.

Canada's National Junior Team returns to the ice Thursday morning with a 10:00 am practice at the Beatrice Ice Gardens on the York University Campus.

Thursday night, an OUA All-Star Team will provide the opposition in a game at the Beatrice Ice Gardens. Game time will be 5:30 pm. Tickets are available on-site. The two teams face each other again on Friday, December 14th at 5:30 pm.
