CALGARY, AB - The Canadian Hockey Association will hold it's Annual General Meeting in Ottawa, Ontario at the Marriott Hotel from Friday, May 18th through Tuesday, May 22nd.

The AGM brings together the Board of Directors, representatives from the CHA's thirteen branches and the CHA's councils (Female, Junior, Minor, Senior, Hockey Development) to discuss issues relating to hockey in Canada.

Among the subjects on the 2001 AGM's agenda are:

- A proposal by the Ottawa District Hockey Association for an age change in the various amateur hockey divisions. Currently, the midget level brings together 16 and 17 year olds, the bantam 14 and 15 year olds and so on, with two age groups within each level. The motion proposes having the midget level bring together 15, 16 and 17 year olds, the bantam level 13 and 14 year olds, the peewee level 11 and 12 year olds, the atom level 9 and 10 year olds, the novice level 7 and 8 year olds and the pre-novice level for 6 year olds and under.
- A final report on the Ontario Hockey Federation Pilot Project on body checking
- A Molson Open-Ice Summit Update Workshop
- Results from a Light Puck Study for Women's Hockey
- Election of officers for the CHA Board, including a new chairperson

"The AGM is a culmination of another tremendous year of hockey in Canada, a year that saw thousands of volunteers get involved and thousands of youngsters play hockey at various levels," said Wayne Russell, Chair of the board of the CHA. "There are key issues on this year's agenda and the decisions we will make will help enhance the game of hockey in Canada in the new millenium."

The CHA will also present several awards on Monday, May 21st, including the Gordon Juckes Award, for outstanding contribution to hockey, the Volunteer of the Year award, the Female Breakthrough Award and the Order of Merit awards.

"We're looking forward to welcoming delegates from all parts of Canada to the City of Ottawa," Frank Libera, Chairman of the host committee. "The topics for discussion will be extremely interesting, and we’re working very hard to ensure that it will be a tremendous weekend."
