CALGARY, AB - NHL veterans Grant Ledyard and Michael Peca, have agreed to join Canada's National Men's Team for the Spengler Cup in Davos, Switzerland from December 26-31, 2000, the Canadian Hockey Association announced on Wednesday.

The participation of both players at the Spengler Cup will hinge on their NHL contract status, as both currently are free agents. Ledyard, a veteran of sixteen NHL seasons has played 953 games and played with the Ottawa Senators in 1999-2000. The 40 year-old defenceman is a native of Winnipeg, MB.

Peca, a veteran of six NHL seasons has played 400 NHL games, amassing 102 goals and 127 assists. The native of Toronto, ON won the Frank J. Selke Trophy in 1997 as the NHL's Top Defensive Forward. The 26 year old forward won a gold medal with Canada's National Junior Team at the 1994 World Junior Hockey Championship in the Czech Republic.

"Adding Grant and Mike for the Spengler Cup is tremendous for our National Team," said Wayne Fleming, Head Coach of Canada's National Men's Team. "Their calibre of play and experience will be a definite asset for our team."

Canada's National Men's Team, which was once run as a full-time program from 1963--2000, is currently operating on a part-time basis. Canada captured the Deutschland Cup earlier this month and will participate in four more major international competitions in Europe during the season: Spengler Cup, Sweden Games, Nagano Cup and finally the IIHF Men's World Championship. Canada will put together separate rosters for these competitions using Canadian players that are playing overseas, or are otherwise available to play.
